PRODUCT INFO
Raised in the pristine waters of New Zealand’s Akaroa Harbour, Akaroa King Salmon is the smallest ocean-based king salmon farm in the world—and one of the most meticulous. These fish grow slowly and require delicate handling, making them unsuit-able for high-density farming. Akaroa maintains extremely low stocking densities using large, individual 120-meter sea pens that hold just 1% fish, allowing ample space and a natural life cycle.
No antibiotics or hormones are used at any stage, and there are no issues with sea lice in New Zealand waters, so no pesticides are needed. Nets are kept clean without antifouling treatments—cleaned daily using underwater vacuums—and boat hulls are scrubbed regularly. The feed is ethoxyquin-free, certified Halal, and includes natural astaxanthin, a beta-carotene that supports salmon health and gives the flesh its vibrant color naturally.
Sustainability efforts include a shift to algae-based fish oil to reduce pressure on wild stocks, and a current Fish In, Fish Out (FIFO) ratio of just 1.18:1—among the best in the industry. With rigorous seafloor monitoring, no chemical additives, and a low carbon footprint, Akaroa offers chefs a premium salmon that reflects the highest environmental and culinary standards.
