Hudson Valley Fisheries was inspired by a commitment to food security and environmental stewardship. Their goal is to protect wild populations and the environment through a state of the art land-based biosecure Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS). Hudson Valley Fisheries pairs expert husbandry with groundbreaking technology to provide the best growing environment for New York Steelhead from egg to harvest. As an aquaculture teaching facility, they are also educating future fish farmers in best practices by collaborating with the Culinary Institute of America and numerous universities in the Hudson Valley region. Every aspect of their business model is designed to keep their carbon footprint small while offering impeccably fresh, local fish.
Hudson Vally Fishes’ RAS, or Recirculating Aquaculture System, has several advantages over more traditional fish aquaculture methods. This biosecure facility keeps fish in and predators and diseases out, meaning there are no escapes from our farm and no interactions between their fish and native wildlife. They also treat and reuse the water, meaning less discharge and less impact on the environment. New York Steelhead is fed a responsibly-sourced and balanced diet of natural anti-oxidants, proteins, and lipids.
The state of the art facility contributes to sustainability and a small carbon footprint thanks to low head biofilters, automated feed systems, and ambient, in-tank temperature controls. Hudson Valley Fisheries is recognized by Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch and Ocean Wise Sustainability certified.
